Project management processes are defined as follows by the PMI (Project Management Institute):
 
        - Start
        - Planning
        - Implementation
        - Monitoring and Inspection
        - Closure
 
Project management processes may vary due to the conditions brought by the business cultures of the organizations themselves and the industry they are operating in. While the processes defined by the PMI determine the outline; it is the responsibility of the project manager to revise and build these processes as per the company.  One of the main tasks of strategic project management offices is the adaptation of these processes to the company.  Even companies operating in the same industry may differ in project management processes.  It is also possible that project management system, which is successfully implemented in a company, may not be implemented in another company with the same level of success.  Thus, it is of strategic importance that the project management processes are designed as specific to the company and project management systems are designed as per the corporate culture of the company.
